Alcohol Free April Challenges

Members of the Canadian-Punjabi community are facing many challenges related to alcoholism. There is little support for families affected by alcohol addictions. Additionally, Punjabi cultural traditions promote a culture that encourages excessive consumption of alcohol and does not offer a safe space for those wanting to discontinue use. The Alcohol Free April initiative aims to give the community motivation to live without alcohol for 30days during the month of April, deemed Sikh Heritage Month in Ontario, Canada. April is also the month when Vaisakhi is celebrated by Sikhs. we aim to highlight the power of sobriety and create discourse on South Asian media channels around mental health and addiction, impacts of alcoholism on the society, and resources for help.
